Amusement Park Simulator Ride

A major amusement park called upon a Canadian construction company to ensure the safety of its major simulator attraction. The project engineers required a low maintenance, durable braking solution that reduced the risk of overheating.

Over 100 Twiflex GMR-SD caliper disc brakes were supplied for use as safety clamps on the seat pods of the major simulator rides for this amusement park. Eight brakes are fitted on the top of each seat pod and are used to clamp the pod to the rail during the operation of the ride.

The GMR-SD units are spring applied, air-released caliper disc brakes with a 36 kN braking force, making them the perfect solution for this application. A single caliper weighs only 32kg, and the lightweight, modular design requires significantly less downtime for the rides’ repairs and maintenance.

The ride structures each contain about one million pounds of steel, and 37 tons are lifted during each ride cycle. Twiflex GMR-SD calipers were chosen for their durability, ease of maintenance, quiet operation and low air pressures.
